Greetings all. This was my very fist electric guitar. I was not the original owner so the condition that the neck was in (I think a broken truss rod) when I got it was simply what I had to work with. Anyway, aside from getting the truss rod replaced, I thought I might find someone who had a source for parts or someone who knew of a neck perhaps. It was simply in the case after I got my 2nd electric guitar...so, I used it for 2 or 3 years then it was a case dweller for 20 years.

I actually have a neck from my buthered Washburn Raven, it's wine red though, so the color is off compared to yours.
Also it needs the final touches for the new frets I've installed(i.e. smoothen the fretedges and a the frets might need levelling since they're all brand new).

Hmm...well, I have to say at this time that I am going to keep looking. Shipping from Sweden must be somewhat expensive along with what you'd want for the neck as opposed to an entire guitar that I saw advertised for $350 recently, in perfect condition.

Welcome to the forum. What makes you say the truss rod is broken? If the rod is not snapped there are fixes.

If it is snapped it still may be easier to repair then find a neck. Most made in Japan electrics used a kind of truss rod that had the rod inside a "U" shaped metal channel. They are sometimes called "Martin Style" rods. To replace you carefully remove the fretboard, take out the old rod, drop in a new one and re-glue the fret board. Be prepared to re-level and dress the frets as it is unlikely that you will get the board back on perfectly.

With Gibson and Fender style rods you it is almost impossible to remove the rod as they are in a curved channel that would have to be routed out. It is impossible to rout the channel to the rod without the router bit hitting the rod (bad for the guitar and dangerous for you).

Yes, I have been talking on and off with a guy about removing the fretboard and replacing the rod. He is capable of doing just about anything on a guitar so I am confident that he can do it and do it well. I just don't know if the cost is 'worth it' for sentimental value...a cost which we haven't even discussed but I have imagined enough with the amount of work involved in removing a fingerboard and reinstalling it.

The truss rod has a makeshift washer put under the nut and I recall turning it significantly with nothing happening so that is why I assume it is broken.

Or it could just be a stripped nut on the truss rod. (not sure if this happens often so is just a thought)

Hey Don, forget the trussrod, and fasten your family, your guitars and the rest of your property!
Cyclone "Yasi" is on the way to Queensland.
Wish you good luck. Hope to hear from you tomorrow!

Glad to hear that, I thought you were living somewhat north-west of Mackay ... :wink2:
