Hello amigos,

Just picked this bad boy up. Looks like a washburn A20v. Slightly disappointed that the flame maple top looks like a veneer, and the idiot who mailed it chipped the upper horn and ignored my demand that the guitar NOT SHAKE! Well... what can you do? Sounds like new Dimarzio Super Distortions, as they have black poles, posssibly original vintage pickups? They sound very hot.

The guitar sounds very good. Beautiful neck through, has cool circle brass inlays, and a brass nut. Overall, a lovely guitar. Can anyone tell me an approximate value? Don't give me "it's what a willing buyer will pay" bs! thanks :)

Aside from the BS maple top (which may indeed be a real solid cap, I have to remove the pickups to check) build quality is right up there with my Eagle Maple.

If I said it was worth $100 would you take $150?? $175??

Seriously, that thing is gorgeous!
Unlike a lot of Mat guitars, several pros played these. I think it gives them a little more credibility.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a $500 price tag on this.

Beauty!
I am gonna suggest that the guitar is a Yamaki build due to the serial number - 1980.

Nice score. Congrats.

thanks for the replies! This guitar is awesome... great tone. Anybody know what kind of pickups are in this thing stock? Or what kind of wood this guitar is made out of?

I might at least fill out some of the blanks.
As you´ve probably noticed guitar is very bright in what it produces. This mainly due to the maple used.

As for the pups these are the same pups as used for Yamakis housebrand Daion. They have been claimed to have been produced by Goto at the time, which is NOT confirmed. Regardless they are of rather high output no matter the rather mundande DC resistance of 8+ kilo Ohms. Voicing of them i´d say is very "80s heavymetal" more than anything else.

Also, I believe the bodies are ash, under the maple tops.
As Racing said - quite a bright voice, and yes, very 80's in its tone.

I have a 2008 A20 re-issue in honeyburst.... made in Indonesia.
Set neck, and oddly enough, no bellycut on the back(?)
Its a nice guitar, but lacking the details/refinement of an original neck-thru - yours is first generation.
Pretty sure that 1979-80 was the debut 'season' for the A Series.

cheers
