Just thought I'd pop this up in case Johann or someone else would be interested in adding it to the Vantage timeline.
This guitar came into the shop more or less as a bit of a beater: no case, a cracked saddle and a matching crack in the back. It of course also came with liberal amounts of dust, dirt, and finger jam (ugh!) When I first saw the headstock I was smiling, then I realized it was an Indonesian model.
Oh well...if I interpret the serial correctly it's a '95??
Here are few shots prior to cleaning her up. Unfortunately, as always, taken with a shoddy cell phone cam under fluorescent light:
Impressions? Well no Mats to be sure, but not a bad sound out of it, and the fit and finish were better than expected. I'm guessing that
VIS stands for
Vantage
Indonesia
Samick? Machine heads had been swapped out for Grovers so I expect the originals were on the cheap side. I found the neck a bit chunky/heavy but overall not too bad a guitar considering it was not a pristine sample.
