Hi. I've a prototype sb1500v 5 string bass (according to the paperwork).
It seems that this preproduction prototype was never manufactured. Can anyone identify it please? I'm probably looking to move it on. If it helps, I have a certificate of authenticity which dates it at 2003.

Aria pro ii sb1500v 5 ? https://imgur.com/gallery/QDeSZDh

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi Mike, nice looking instrument.
But of course it is not a Matsumoku made bass if it was made in 2003! Mats went out of production in 1987.

Not much information here will be of help unless a member has some specific knowledge of post-Mats models.

Design wise your bass has a lot in common with what Aria was doing in the late 90s. There was a 5 string SB in the Japanese Aria Pro catalog from 1997, that looks pretty much like your bass.
Anyway, there is not much information on those available. The production models for 2003 were the Korean made SB404 and SB505, plus the Japan made SB-1000RI (looks exactly like the early 80s model).
