Pole pieces don't have to line up perfectly. I think an 1/8" is pushing it though.

Yeah, that's my feeling too. What I need is a P90 rail! :P

I have a post Matt (I think) Vantage rail we could do a trade on but you would have to find a second and its not a P90 or a PAF. As I recall it is fairly hot.

Honestly Barry.
Within reason that whole thing with spacing is WAY WAY WAY overrated.
Trust me.

Google magnetic field and see what you come up with and you´ll get an idea.
IOW...don´t let THAT stop ya.
Magnetism sure don´t go "straight" i can tell you that much.
Input impedance asf aside.

Only way to really know is to try,and my guess is that you would be happy as pie with the outcome.

For a humbucker sized P90 style pup tho the Phatcat is hard to beat.
There´s a downright following of them with even dedicated forums.
The diehard fans even swap magnets and what have you not.
If you´re not familiar with them they´re like in a P90 zone of their own.
Further than that they´ll take gain levels a regular P90 could only dream of,and still keep string separation as you turn the gain up.
Lemme put it this way my friend,i for one am one of those diehard fans since a while back and as such should be considered biased.
No matter.
If you like the P90 style the Phatcats won´t let you down cause Seymour Duncan did something right this time out.
What´s more, they´re fairly common in the pre-owned market.
Ie;they show up at reasonable rates.

OK. I'm convinced.
On the hunt...um, as soon as I first find some money.

Well, here's a mini bump for this year old thread...

Thanks to all the positive comments and encouragement here and elsewhere, plus a current streak of much needed work income (from two jobs) I finally had a bit of spare change to get some replacement pups for a few overdue upgrade projects, prime of which is this TA60!

I ordered a set of GFS Mean 90's for this baby and I think it's gonna be exciting! :hyper: Everything I read is positive about these and I think it can only improve the sound of this baby, which is already not too bad. They look good in the picture: http://www.guitarfetish.com/Mean-90-Gold-Case-Alnico-P90-Fat-and-Strong-Output-_c_133.html and from the sound clips I've heard they're darn close to the real thing.

I went all out for GFS's. Also ordered a pair of Fat Pat's which I'm gonna try in my Parker Hornet PM20 (a solid mahogany LP'sh clone, but way nicer). I also grabbed a set of outrageously cheap non-GFS HB's but sold by them which are advertised as a bulk purchase of another manufacturer's over wound's (12K/14K) which I'll try in the Epi LP Studio.

The plan is to instigate a guitar domino program...swapping pups around until I get the best sound I can out of what I've got, which includes 2 Westone Spectrums which currently have those stock anemic UBC pups.

Stay tuned. Film at eleven.
