While still looking for the right guitar (vintage R80, RX80, or PE Aniversary), I stumbled across this little number, and the price was so low (I got it for only $250) I had to grab it.

It needed to be cleaned up and it needs new strings (badly), but even so it looks and plays great. Honestly? It plays and feels better than my ESP/LTD EC 1000 Deluxe! The sound isn't quite as good as the ESP/LTD, but it's darned close (the difference I'd attribute to the pickups more than anything).

Now I just need to replace that $250 by selling as much of my non-guitar collectible stuff as possible. Quickly. Looks like I'll be spending some time on ebay adding listings... :D

But I am VERY happy with this purchase. No, it's not a vintage R80, but it just goes to show how well designed those guitars were that a relatively low priced Korean version (this one more based on the R60, actually) plays and sounds as good as it does.

Thanks!

The sound is VERY Les Paul, and it feels great. I can only imagine what a vintage R80 would feel and sound like. The basic design on this thing is very similar to the R60 (with the flat back).

But for a set-neck guitar with a flame maple top this was a great deal. Now to get that R80/RX80 money back I'm loading anything I can on ebay. But it was well worth it.

Like I said above - the fact that this thing is as good as it is just shows how well designed the original PE guitars really were.

Real nice flame top on that....

I was looking on ebay yesterday night and saw a R80 reposted since was not sold for the $800 asking price... I think he has it listed for 699 now...

Yep, that's right - Thanks! And I may go after that one. It's just the shipping cost that's a hindrance now. I'm trying to work something out with the seller. If I can't do that I may go after one in Japan.

I'd still want an RX80, though, just as a player. Brand new, shiny, clean - that would be nice, but the R80 I'd probably treat with a little more care and reverence. :D

I just need to find a way to get an extra $800...
