Aria seems to produce more for the local markets in recent time. It started with the PE-R80 re-issue (Made in Japan) and the PE-RX80 (Made somewhere else in Asia).

Anyway, by now there are not many "Aria" branded guitars available in Japan, that are not "Made in Japan"... latest example is the STG series. Somewhere else in the world you can buy this model: http://www.ariausa.com/guitars/stg003.html

In Japan they sell this one: http://www.ariaguitars.com/jp/02prod/0101eg/stgstd.html

They even made a matching Tele: http://www.ariaguitars.com/jp/02prod/0101eg/tegstd.html

For around 850 USD it's supposed to look good.

Aria also sells cheap guitars in Japan... but they don't use the Aria brand name for them (the cheap ones say Legend or Blitz on the headstock). Legend being Fender copies and Blitz being Gibson copies.

Anyway, I found it interesting that Aria is aiming at the mid price range again. The competition in that price range is basically Fender Japan, Fujigen, Edwards (ESP made in Korea), Schecter (also Korea?) and tons of others.
This is a very difficult price range to establish yourself in Japan... there is so much competition.

Btw. the British Guitar & Bass magazine has a review of the SB-1000 re-issue in the 2013-01 issue. They don't like the sound of the active electronics.
