Acoustic guitars are a whole other thing, eh; I used - and still own! - a Samick Greg Bennet OM-CE for acoustic stuff live and through the PA it is epic; full and tonally rich, but unplugged it's a bit ordinary...

My Ovation was simply awful to my ears - quite shrill and brittle, especially after the Maton that it replaced - and I moved it on quite quickly and then used a 12 string Ibanez for ages until I got the Samick.

You know, I test drove about a dozen acoustic guitars before opting for the Samick; Takamine, Martin, a Canadian brand that I can't recall now and a few others and they all sounded pretty much the same amplified; the Martin and the Canadian were just beautiful unplugged but the Martin was wa-a-ay out of my price range and - being a cheap bastid - the Samick won out on price, which if I recall correctly, was about NZ$900 in 1996, with no case.

Should I ever buy another acoustic for live work - very unlikely!! - it would be a Maton, no question, and I would close mike it if I needed to!!

i have 2 Vantage acoustics from the Matt era, one of which went to Don as it was a VA series, and the other is my 'beach guitar'... both sound just fine, though the salty air around Hervey Bay was hell on the strings!!

Yeah, but I'd have to be able to play like Tommy Emmanuel though!

Yup again, can't go wrong with Vantage neither.

Dang, I'm glad I mentioned this. I saw an interview with a guy from Godin telling about how all their guitars are built.
Now I'm checking out an Art&Lutherie Legacy in bourbon burst.

Tommy Emmanuel I'm not. . .
