I've been thinking of getting a hollow body and found this in my town. It's a Univox Pro, ES 175 copy I suppose.

Here is the description in the ad............

Late 60’s to early 70’s Univox pro in good condition. Matsumoku made in Japan. Missing original pick guard and pickups have been replaced with humbuckers before I bought it years ago. Original cheap tuners replaced with reliable and great looking Epiphone tulip tuners. Original case is functional and in decent shape for an old chipboard case.
Price is $475

I found a sold one on Reverb.......

I'm not running out the door to buy it but should I be?

The price seems too high to me but I don't mind the mods. It's probably better with the modes.

Does anyone have any experience with these Univox hollow bodies to give an opinion?

If the neck is straight, truss rod is intact, frets are good, electronics work and is in fairly good shape then it is probably worth that. The original pickups were not dipped and microphonic so newer pickups is probably a plus if you don't dip your own pickups. I've been dipping them since the early 80s.

Looks good to moi.
Despite being microphonic, I think I would have preferred the original pups. The new 'buckers would give it a more contemporary and quieter sound but to each his own I guess.

if anyone has any suggestions on a good jazz box please let me know.
Aria had a few, looks like they're around 1000. Vantage had Korean models.
Then there's Samick, etc.

It turned out that one my neighbors in my condo development was the owner.
I bought it. The truss rod is OK, plenty of movement. I'll rehab and see what I
have but it's going to take time for me to get used to the size. I knew that going in though,
I'm not a fan of acoustics. If I don't get used to it, I'll sell it. Maybe someone here would want it.

A full size jazz box does take a little getting used to. I had a Westone Session II that was really sweet. I doubt you could touch one for under a grand now if not much more.

That's a nice looking guitar Crusty. I was hesitant to spend more $ on
a jazz box in case I could not get used to the size.

My first guitar in '77 was a black Univox Les Paul Custom bolt on neck.

With the proper application of mushrooms, lysergic acid diethylamide, crack and embalming fluid possibly.

He's on crack. If anyone pays that they're on crack too.
