Great chips I guess.

Not original pickups I believe. Too bad there's chips, it would have been worth taking a shot at it.
Nowadays who knows if it sell as fast as it would have a year ago.

That was fast. Maybe I'm wrong but I think that the PE 135 is rarer yet still available.
It's cleaner also.

Soon they'll drop the price.

Rare does not necessarily mean more desirable.

If a guitar from the 80s is still looking like fresh out of the shop, it can also mean that there are issues and that's why it wasn't played that much. While a guitar that looks used (but not abused) is most likely nice to play.

I don't like "relic" guitars... but I think playability is more important than looks.

Agreed. I lucked out on the PE-R60. It was near mint but no issues at all, just hardly played.

The word "relic" for some reason causes the urge to have a bowel movement when I see it. Purposely beat to @#$% does NOT equal valuable or cool. It just means some moron intentionally damaged an otherwise nice guitar.

I bought a Switch Vibracell Wild I a while back. It was partially dismantled but that didn't worry me. I told him I'd send him pics once I've repaired the damage to the bridge. He said "It's not damaged, it's aged" but I beg to differ. The dip@#$% sanded the black electroplating off of it right down to the copper plating. It is now back to original condition and no longer "relic'd."

My first PE-R80 has small dings and wear here and there but as opposed to a relic this wear was earned through countless hours of playing.

SRV's strat looks the way it does because he played the @#$% out of it, not beat it up.

Yeah, I've never seen a believable relic job. :toopid:

Even if there would be a believable relic job...

Why would I want a perfectly nice guitar beat up on purpose... it will show it's use when it's played long enough.

Remark: I'm not talking about sanding down the back of the neck and put oil for a better "feel"... but deliberately hammering chips out of the body or corrode screws and metal pieces for the "look".
