Yeah, I have 0 experience with gold foils. I have a Gretsch 2655T that I was thinking of trying different pickups in.
I kinda like the P90 idea though.

We sold a couple of these in the shop back in the day. IIRC the guitar itself was nice to play but the Broad 'Tron pups were unremarkable when compared with the "real" Gretsch's.

I'm not sure I put in P90's, even as much as I love 'em, the Gretsch has a sound all its own and I would not want to mess with that.
I'd spring for some TV Jones if the budget allow, or Filter 'Trons.

Unremarkable is the perfect description for the Broadtrons.

Graham, you say it has nicks and dings but it photographs very well. It could pass for nearly new!
Is it a bolt or set neck?

Very nice and +1 on using the gold foils in a semi hollow. Bet that would sound great!

Jorg. It cleaned up pretty well. It is a bolt on neck. I had to fabricate a new neck plate, as original plate was missing, and had been replaced with 4 large washers!!

Barry. Have moved the DeArmonds on. Sold them to a guy up your way in Oakville, who is planning to install them in a 1975 Granada EA200. I guess it is a lawsuit era Matsomoku ES335 style guitar. I will be interested in how it sounds.

The D'Armonds should sound pretty good in that Granada, although it is similar to my Gibson ES330 with P90's, and Nuthin' beats those!

I still think the gold foils sound best in a light weight solid top hollow body. Not sure he'll get the best out of them in a F hole geetar but rock on Oakville dude!

And. . .who the hell loses a neck plate!? Honestly.
At least there were washers on those screws!
