Got a similar problem with my 15 year old. Just won't wash his ^&%$%# hands! Especially after eating anything greasy like bacon, which he insists on eating with his fingers. Those mucky, slimy hands touch everything, including his guitar. The poor neck and strings on that thing take a lot of abuse, particularly since the fretboard is not sealed. And he will not even wipe the strings afterward! :x
Dad has to rescue the poor little 'strat' and clean it up on a regular basis. Like I need another guitar to maintain! :roll:

See, now he'll never learn his lesson if you keep cleaning up after him. Me, I'd probably release a handful of fire ants onto his fretboard...the ants would have a feast, and Junior would learn to wash his bacon-greazy mitts before playing guitar.

Barry: Cannot believe you cant restrict your son to playing only when he washes his hands and has a accident free area so he wont trip or turn without hurting the amp or guitar. Cleanliness is the most basic of discipines and is a great teacher of respect, work ethics and caring. These all help him in future life. I am sure he would even respect you more if you made him buck up. Personally I love even my cheapest tools, guitars,and amps. When I "kick off" they will be in the same shape as when I bought them. Encourage cleaness to your son firmly and create a man that loves beauty and craftmanship. Best of luck

You don't know much about 15 year old's do you? He changes his clothing constantly, but won't keep his hands clean! Lots of laundry. Lots of unused hand soap!
