For reference, this is my guitar (Raven) as it looks now:

The way it's currently wired, each pickup has it's own volume and tone control. My plan is to change that to 1 Vol/1 Tone for both pickups. I also plan to change the pickup selector to a 3-way toggle, and relocate it somewhere else on the guitar. At first, I was thinking of installing the toggle switch where the neck pickup tone control is located (top right in the pic).

But I really like the location of the switch on a Gibson Johnny A:

I would have to drill a new hole and I'm not sure if I should or not.

Thoughts, opinions?

If you are doing away with pots you could just use one of the spare pot holes for a relocated toggle. Then there is no drilling and can be put back to original.

That's my original thought. However, I really like where the Johnny A switch is positioned. Hmmmm.

That original location really does suck eh? Hoax has the simplest solution for relocation though.
But more important, what are you planning to do with the old switch location, just leave the plate in place?

Yep, the original location is not very good. First (and after some thought), I''m going to keep the original 2 Vol/2 Tone set up and drill a hole in the same location that you see on the Johnny A for the toggle. Next, I'll be replacing the original plate with a new one which I'll make myself. I have lots of material left over from when I made the pickup rings. I'll post pics when it's done.

Almost done. Just have to make the new cover where the old selector switch was. I'll have that done today some time.

The new plate worked out well. Don't know about that big ass toggle though.
Doesn't appear to be a guitar toggle??? More industrial grade methinks.

I bought the toggle from Bezdez. Based on the description, I assume it's for guitars...... and it's not that big :)

That being said, I find that it functions way better than the stock toggle switch. Not as long a throw and of course, the new position works well for my playing style. All in all, the guitar plays and sounds great. The only downside is that it has the 1 9/16th nut width which I learned was the trend in the mid to late 60's. I'm used to it but still prefer the more standard 1 11/16th.
