Wow! Those height adjustment screws are a mile high! Skin scrapers waiting to happen. But, I much prefer those saddles. I can't remember what bridge they were for but I used to swap the stock ones out for shorter ones. If the neck pocket is routed properly there is no need for the saddles to be that high.

I don't know which I hate more, those height screws or poorly dressed or seated frets. I can't stand it when a manufacturer doesn't properly level, crown, and dress frets. It can make the difference between a guitar that plays like S*** and one that plays like butter. Not to mention the finger-shredding properties. Does wonders for action too.

I noticed the poor design choice for sheet metal saddles most often when setting intonation. There was something about them that made it a little more difficult to get it dead on. Most guitars I only have to go through the strings three times after they have settled in. Strats 5 or more and that's with the trem locked in place with a block of walnut in the back of the rout.

They used to make larger heavier sustain blocks for the strat type trems. That coupled with the Strat Plus saddles was like night and day.

Although pricey I've used the Schaller flush mount roller bridge a few times. VERY nice bridge but again those tall screws had to go.

They don't stick out anything like that high in situ, though!! And that rather elegant lip around 3 sides does keep your hand away from them... or at least it does on the Bougainville Avenger! The string break angle across the saddles is rather acute, however..

Strat Plus saddles are no good for me because of the spacing, but there are metric alternatives, and you can still get heavy sustain blocks if you want to pony up big dosh for a Callahan...

Oh, poorly finished frets arc me up; they gotta be worse than saddles screws, eh!

I've used that bridge on several guitars. I got saddles from a metric fender that fit nicely.

Dragging on a bit, this one, eh?! :D :D

Anyway, just to keep people up to date - though I'm not sure there's anyone left!! - P90s ordered from NZ for a very reasonable price, and the clear is on and buffed to a smooth, glistening sheen so waiting for the pickups to arrive, and for my fretwire, too!!

Frozen pot on the loom couldn't be revived, so that's been replaced.

Can't decide what to put on the headstock; Vantage.... Avenger... Johns' Rat..... suggestions, please, chaps!! It'll be in Vivaldi font....

Johnny Rat has a ring to it too.

Or, how about Vantage on the head stock and The Rat on the TRC?

Pics because I've nothing else at the moment... guitar is clear coated and buffed as much as I could; still awaiting pick ups, and fret wire...

I like it!! Still undecided as to what goes on the h/s...
