Wow! Those height adjustment screws are a mile high! Skin scrapers waiting to happen. But, I much prefer those saddles. I can't remember what bridge they were for but I used to swap the stock ones out for shorter ones. If the neck pocket is routed properly there is no need for the saddles to be that high.
I don't know which I hate more, those height screws or poorly dressed or seated frets. I can't stand it when a manufacturer doesn't properly level, crown, and dress frets. It can make the difference between a guitar that plays like S*** and one that plays like butter. Not to mention the finger-shredding properties. Does wonders for action too.
I noticed the poor design choice for sheet metal saddles most often when setting intonation. There was something about them that made it a little more difficult to get it dead on. Most guitars I only have to go through the strings three times after they have settled in. Strats 5 or more and that's with the trem locked in place with a block of walnut in the back of the rout.
They used to make larger heavier sustain blocks for the strat type trems. That coupled with the Strat Plus saddles was like night and day.
Although pricey I've used the
Schaller flush mount roller bridge a few times. VERY nice bridge but again those tall screws had to go.
