What do you think of it. I think it screams "METAL!!!"

Oliver !

Despite me not liking 'metal' guitar shapes, I absolutely love that!

I hope you've a suitable stage outfit to match! Squid may be able to help if you don't :D

Nice Job, Oliver !
Remember, volume knobs are for sissies anyway :D

As for the orange jumpsuit :-? , I'm thinking more of a hell-bent for
leather look. I'm sure ther are some shops there in Germany that can more than accomodate you

Problem is, it's not going to sound very metal without a bridge humbucker.

But, there are creative ways around that.

Wire the pickup in parallel instead of series, and if needed add a capacitor as a high pass filter which can then be adjusted with a normal pot. Using a bridge pickup will increase output, especially if the neck pickup was specifically designed for the neck position.

It still won't quite sound exactly like a bridge pickup but will have enough bite to chew through chain mail.

Don't ask me what capacitor I used, for the life of me I can't remember. I understood the modification, not the theory. :toopid:

Hi again !

Took me some time to answer, had a hectic time, changing my job (hopefully for the better... ;-) )

You know, the fact that I placed the humbucker to the neck position occured to me much too late. I just sawed the hole for it at the wrong place :-( That happens if you are working in your dark basement too long with some paint remover bottles not sealed well enough :-)

Now I have to make the metal plate again or go with Crusty´s idea and leave it like it is and try to improve the tone otherwise. I think what I will do is attach the neck and the bridge, put on some strings and give it a try. If the tone is OK, fine, if not I will have to find a solution.

If nothing goes wrong it cold happen this weekend, will keep you posted.

Greetings

Oliver !

So, took me another week, but now it´s done !!! I made a plate for the headstock, too. And I found a Zebra-Humbucker, which fits the color scheme much better than the only black one! After havin some trouble, setting up the neck and the intonation perfectly I could hook it up and the sound is.......OK I have to make a new plate and put the humbucker into the bridge position ;-)
It´s not bad, but I hoped it to be more - hmmm, different. Anyway, it´s very comfortable to play when you sit, due to the missing lower part it shifts position compared to a normal Explorer so that the headstock comes a little closer which is OK. It is a real lightwight, even with the aluminium plates attached. I´m happy I didn´t throw the body out, it´s a unique kind of guitar now !

Oliver !

Now, wait a minute! Corsair had the Mary-Tyler-Moore jumpsuit, I had the frilly tuxedo shirts!

Sorry I didn't get onto this thread earlier, my suggestion would have been to fashion the missing part of the body out of styrofoam, attach it to the body, spray the whole guitar, and then angrily bite chunks out of the foam bits while raging onstage.

Nice work with the diamondplate.
