does anyone know what year this might be from?

this is my first attempt at a refinish so any advice on the below plans would be useful:

someone has done most of the hard work in removing the finish from the back and front. just need to do the side, edges and some fine sanding. i'm sure there's a full days work in that anyway.

the grain is showing beautifully. i read that a coat of shellac prior to staining might help bring this out even more (?)

planning on just giving a simple, non-gloss stain finish (walnut?)
2 or 3 coats applied by rag, then finish with a coat of tung oil.

reckon that'll be ok?

apart from the finish, this is a beauty! (AU$120 on ebay)

the frets are super low but not buzzing at all. playing nicely as it came.
the wear on the fretboard is heavy, but looks pretty cool i say.
the electrics are working and the pickups sound really nice - very warm.
there is a crack in the pickguard, next to the neck pickup. (does anyone know if a fender pickguard will match?)
missing one volume knob and the switch tip.

any advice appreciated!

otherwise, watch this space...

finally got around to uploading some pics.

a bit dodgy on my sanding job.
the barrel sander took a nasty bite out of the wood on the lower bower, at the neck.
should have been more careful.

looks pretty sweet though i reckon.

Hi Jim, happy to see you've got her back into presentable shape.
I don't know this label at all, but I tend not to have much interest in "Tele's" that have covered humbucker pups, and Gibson set up!
Doesn't look right or make sense to me. I guess I'm more 'vintage' that way.

Hello,

Looks good to me ! A friend of mine has a nice older ( "vintage", I suppose ) thin-line Tele that someone had painted day/glo orange :-? , and I did a similar refin job on his. Color came out about the same as yours.

And FWIW, I think the Tele w/HB set up is cool.

I will split the difference on a tele with an HB. Coool if it has a coil split so you can take it in either direction :D
