OK, gang... here we go!! The package containing my "new" broken U-60 arrived today and the first thing I've got to say is that API certainly know how to pack something!! And the second would be; "Gee, that body is light!!" Even smashed as it is, it is so darn light and the control cavity surface is just SO thin.... I'm surprised more don't finish up like this one, I really am!

However, on with some pictures as they will indeed show the horrors that await me!! I do think I'll have a crack at repairing it first, though as I rather fancy bringing it back from the brink, as it were. And of course, if that doesn't work, then I'll make a new body!! Simple as!! I know what colour it shall be when I'm done though - a green slime-burst (green to black) is what I'm favouring; anyone got any problems with that?!?! :D :D

On a really positive note, it is utterly complete - everything is there down to the wang bar and the incy winciest screw, albeit in desperate need of lots of attention, so that's all good! The pick-up selector switch has been snapped off at the ferrule, but that's not even worth thinking about given what the major problem is !!

.. oh,yeah... the fretboard is staring to lift at the nut... .. nasty repair effected there already which will have to be undone and re-repaired!!

Wish me luck, guys.... Mind you, for £50, not unmanageable... :D

Hey, it's a take-down, travel guitar!! It's meant to be like that!! Ain't it?? It's very light, and the section where it's broken is very very thin.... with the control holes in there as well; it's asking to be broken!!

Guys; question; is the brighwork i.e. saddles, bridge plate, brass or plated sh*t metal?

Ya know Johnny, that ain't as bad as I was prepared for. The breaks are actually pretty "clean" and not shattered as it first appeared. It may not be as bad as you think.

And yes you're right, it is an amazingly light body, almost too much so, and the top is dangerously thin. You can now see first hand why I was tearing out my hair with mine. For Pete's sake don't drop it!!

Slime green, I think, is an appropriate colour. She has definitely been slimed! :D
Courage, mon brave!

I've just taken the bits down to my carpenter friend for his opinion and he reckons it's a go-er, so that's good enough for me!! He's lent me his Dremel and given me a plan of attack which is to create a template of the control cavity in ¼" ply to give added strength to the repair becasue it is so darn thin... I shall box on...

Leave the bloody sandals alone... Don wears jandals... so there!!!

You know that head looks in really good nick, actually. Will you keep it black, or attempt to smile it also?

And slime green is perfect for this guitar. Fits it's name, look, and personality. :D

Absolutely. The Urchin DEMANDS a green slimeburst finish. I was going to suggest that plywood reinforcement too (Baltic or Finnish Birch if you can get it) even if you have to go with smaller pots. Have fun clamping everything up!
