Haha nice! If you don't mind my asking, what neck did you get?

I ordered this one:

Going to take some creative license in the finishing so it won't be installed as is.

Mine is actually warped a bit at the heel, such that the 14th fret buzzes... Look like right at the neck pocket is where the warp starts....i wonder how far the truss rod actually goes in the original necks, as it almost seems like thats the issue .

I repaired the original neck a couple of years ago and took some pics of the process. This might answer your truss rod questions:

Ahh... I dont think i could do a strat/tele headstock on a hollow body.. LOL it just doesnt seem right to me...LOL

I have been eying up a few Epi LP necks, i think i could make that work and it would have the "right" (totally a mattr of opinion...LOL) headstock shape....

And yeah... Pretty much right where the truss rod ends is where my warp is....LOL

I had the same feeling until I saw a Fender Coronado and Dave Grohl's Gibson. I guess I want something different.

That would be a Trini Lopez inspired reissue (ask your grand dad about him). The Trini was essentially a Gibson ES335 (sometimes a 345-stereo) with a Firebird neck attached to it! Looks really dumb IMHO.

True story :
One of our young customers recently won a contest to have the Foo Fighters come to his house here in Milton to play.
Long story short, 'Nick' has become friends with David Grohl and has also become a fanatical collector of vintage Trini's from the 60's. So far he has brought 3 of them to me for restoration and general clean up. The sound is 335, but the "look"...kinda bizarre.
One of his models also had a Bigsby fer Pete's sake! Double bizarre!! And because of the 6 in line machine heads and the extra looping needed on the Bigsby, the top E string on a standard deck came up short and could not be wound on the post. Triple bizarre!!!

The story told to me was that Gibson wanted to produce a 'signature' guitar and Trini Lopez wanted a headstock like a Stratocaster on it. Obviously that wuzntgonnahappin. So...some bright spark said, "Hey let's put a Firebird neck on the 335. Close 'nuff".
Done.

BTW, if you're thinking of buying one, young Nick has paid between $3000 and $4500 for each of his! And not always in the best of condition.
God knows why.

Generally speaking, I don't like the Firebird headstock. I just found it to be....... interesting (for lack of a better word).

Good story Barry. The one thing I enjoy about owning an old guitar is hearing the stories and diving into the history.

I was actually shocked to see what the price of Coronado's were on Ebay.

Some guitars a scarce for a reason, no one wanted them when they were new. Sometimes for good reason. I do like Trini Lopez's though.

True.
Perhaps you'd like this 'modestly priced' reissue?
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Gibson-DG-335-Ebony-Trini-Lopez-Foo-Fighters-Dave-Grohl-/250967774977?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3a6ed85701

Jeebus! You'd think for that price the guy would at least brush the bloody dust out from under the strings! :mad2:
