That would be a
Trini Lopez inspired reissue (ask your grand dad about him). The Trini was essentially a Gibson ES335 (sometimes a 345-stereo) with a Firebird neck attached to it! Looks really dumb IMHO.
True story :
One of our young customers recently won a contest to have the
Foo Fighters come to his house here in Milton to play.
Long story short, 'Nick' has become friends with David Grohl and has also become a fanatical collector of vintage Trini's from the 60's. So far he has brought 3 of them to me for restoration and general clean up. The sound is 335, but the "look"...kinda bizarre.
One of his models also had a Bigsby fer Pete's sake! Double bizarre!! And because of the 6 in line machine heads and the extra looping needed on the Bigsby, the top E string on a standard deck came up short and could not be wound on the post. Triple bizarre!!!
The story told to me was that Gibson wanted to produce a 'signature' guitar and Trini Lopez wanted a headstock like a Stratocaster on it. Obviously that wuzntgonnahappin. So...some bright spark said, "Hey let's put a Firebird neck on the 335. Close 'nuff".
Done.
BTW, if you're thinking of buying one, young Nick has paid between $3000 and $4500 for each of his! And not always in the best of condition.
God knows why.
