Epiphone had a very cool (but super-freaking heavyweight, even the designer admitted to that on Harmony-Centra) line called the Genesis in the late 70s/early 80s (seems to have been a good time for Japanese guitars)...basically a double-cutaway Les Paul...

I heard that some were made in the US, but others were made in Japan..any info? Okay to talk about them here?

And for that matter, were any Epiphones made in Japan after, say, 1973?

Japanese production of Epiphones from the Matsumoku factory started around 1970, although I've seen some talk of it being as early as 1969, and lasted through around 1979. This includes all the early bolt on stuff such as the ET and EA series and goes through the Scroll models.
I don't know when the Genesis models came out. Maybe some of our other forum members would know.
My particular interest in Epiphones is limited to the Kalamazoo (1959 - 1969) guitars built by Gibson, and the bolt on ET series built by Matsumoku.

I remember reading at some point that the Genesis line was made in Taiwan.

I've read the same thing.

The only thing I know is that when I got my Scroll 450 in 1979, a friend just bought the Genesis. I thought it was even higher quality than the Scroll, so I would not have associated it with Taiwan.
