I finally got it to open. I went over to my son's computer and he's running Firefox. Opened right up. I have IE7, and I suspect that one of the security settings is blocking it.

Anyway, it says "Violin" in katakana all right. I guess that means they applied a violin finish to it. Aria offered that as a top line finish in their PE series and Matsumoku must have applied it to a few Epis too. Thats the only Epi I've ever seen with it. I think that mean it's hand rubbed oil, but I'm not totally sure. If it is, you'll have to oil it and rub it out at least once a year.

The neck joint is identical to mine. If you look close you can see the mortise and tenion. Is that black P-90 a Gibson?

Did you buy that in Singapore or come over to Japan and get it? And do you know what year it is? There's one almost identical to mine on Yahoo Auction Japan right now. The guy wants 60,000 yen for it, about $540, with case.

Mixolydian...yes 'violin' refers to the finish,according to Tad mine's a 78'(the year violin finish was available) made by mats, don't think its hand rubbed oil though....

The PUs are original ,I removed the bridge cover for cleaning ,there are no markings on the PUs .Really love how they sounded .

I got mine 4 years back from a local 2nd hand goods dealer,needless to say I got a good deal for it, however it came with wrongly installed tuners, I've since replaced them with a set of old Grovers ,other than that its all stock.

Hi,Mixolydian.I also own three of these Matsumoku made Casino`s,i`ve got one of each in NATURAL(N),WINE RED(WR),ANTIQUE SUNBURST(AS),all wonderful guitars,the natural and wine red ones are both from 1983,and he antique sunburst is from 1982.Now i know most things about these guitars,but the only source i`ve got for reference,on the pickups being made by Maxon is you!now i thought they might be made by Gotoh,so what makes you think they are Maxon?Frenchie

Hi, Thanks for all the complements. I still have the Casino and play it often.

The pickups may have been made by Gotoh. Maxon made many of Matsumoku's pickups, but Gotoh and Matsumoku were both part of Matsumoto Musical Instrument Manufacturers Association.

I haven't had the pickups out since I bought the guitar, but next time I change strings I'll look for a mark. Maxon's is fairly easy to see - the big M. I have a couple of Ibanez effects pedals which were made by Maxon.
