To update a little.
The genesis of mine is currently undergoing some serious work.
Mainly "sanitizing" it paintwise from previous owners that´s painted old war damages with what seems nailpolish,touch up paint for cars and what have you not.
This entails taking the paint job to a more "civilized" level by touching up with the good stuff and sanding away.
Not refinishing tho...not by a longshot.
Just making this axe look like it once did.

Further.
This genesis at least is built entirely from mahogony.
No maple top,no nothing.
This has left the 3pcs the body is constructed from to move around a little,and while at it i´m going to try n make that "disappear" as best as i can.

As it is completely apart i´ll take some snapshots of for instance the stop bar tomorrow which is clearly marked "japan" and is no doubt stock.

Update.
Turned out that some previous owner had cut the top coat hard already and to boot the paint was full of scars and dings.
Ontop of that the finish around the bolts was completely off the charts.
Indeed...this little baby was off the charts as far as finish goes,and when i tried hitting it with the polisher it all went to hell in a handbasket.

So.
Opted to give this old warhorse a new front.
Everything was fine as i left the shop wednesday night,but when i turned up as a happy camper thurs morning the top looked like it had been hit by a handful of gravel.

Could say...i wasn´t all to please with that.

However.
I gave the genesis a VERY thick coat with the idea that that way i had material enough to cut it IF anything went wrong,and late this afternoon i decided it was time to see what could be done.

...and todays correct lotto numbers are...

In the pictures i´d say we´re about half way there.
Needs another couple of hrs with the emery and polisher to be done.

Further,i remodeled the Gibson pups that were in it to be able to wire to split according to OEM.
Bungs that go into the body to keep bolts for saddle and string holder were...."used" to say the least,so these got a trip in the lathe for a minimum surface cut to come out new again.
All in all,with a little effort...standby...one resurrected genesis coming up.

E-mailed Gibson,and they sent me the OEM specs for the Genesis at least.



Turns out that the previous "fact" that it´s supposed to sport 2 tone and 1 volume is wrong.
But..goes to show you i guess.

A little late to the party, but that's nothing new for me. I was in possession of one of these for 22 years. I got it because it had the same basic "wing" body style as my Washburn Scavenger bass. Loved the look, didn't mind the weight, but I didn't really like playing it much because I'm pretty much just a rhythm player, humbuckers just don't do it for my playing style. I never really played it except for a few solo recording projects, where I played a half-assed lead or some Heavy, dirty rhythm. It did play nicely.

It really never occurred to me that the Epi and the Washie might have come from the same factory, but it somehow makes sense. Ditto for the Aria Pro II bass I once had, which was my first Mats. I loved that bass, so I guess I was naturally drawn to the feel (and weight!) after that. No wonder I have back problems now...

Thanks for the info, Racing, even if it did take this long to find me Body looks great in the shots, did you ever finish it?

Hey Racing, kinda funny how the advert says "open pickups" and the spec sheet says chrome. Guess the specs changed?

Im late to, hi this is my first post , there is 2 kind of genesis, the earliers (1979) like the pictures of catalogs, with covered pickups & top hut knobs & the other came with "exposed" pickups (80/81) & Speed Knobs, aparently the first are MIJ & the others MI Taiwan.

So I have what I believe to be a MIJ Epiphone Genesis. The parts seem to be all Japanese. But in running to ground the Taiwanese made Genesis, their serial numbers are printed on the back of the head stock and follow the scheme: First two numbers= month of manufacture; third number = year of manufacture; Final four numbers are the order of production for that month. My Genesis has the serial # stamped into the fret board on the body end. (This SR# has a digit covered.)
