It has been relentless for a few weeks now, eh?
I have suggested this at least twice before but I have yet to see any change to the registration: You're going to have to use something like the "Captcha" system to register new members. Last I looked Spambots cannot read! Oopps! Apparently some do employ OCR technology.

First thing to do is upgrade the PHBB software to the latest version then have a look here for some ideas: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2122696 If no changes are made this board will be eaten live! The bots are getting nasty.

I have a blog with a captcha for comments. I still get about 10 spams a day. Its a simple math one. The character ones may be better but lately they have making them difficult for a real human in an effort to stop the bots.

I wish you calculate the time these thing wast and put the *&^%$#@#@#$%^ people who create them in jail for the same amount of time.

I hear ya.
These buggers need to be strung up by their G strings! We're again being swamped by cr@p today.

I did say "something like Captcha". One of the more effective current techniques used to protect sites is to use a simple question challenge which requires human thinking/knowledge to answer. Bots cannot logic out or scan an analogy for example.

The Bass Gallery in London have a neat little anti-bot system: http://www.thebassgallery.com/contactus.cfm

Ok enough is enough.
Just looked at the new posts and all 30 or so of them are spam.
You have my permission to do what ever it takes to stop them (not that it means much unless you are one of my kids) :D .
If there is not a free program available to fix the problem just say the word and we can start up a spam buster fund to raise the required dollars to fix the sods once and for all.
Cheers

I would be happy to kick in a few bucks if needed. I hate spammers. They steel time from me every day.

I'm still sweeping for free, but an update and a spambot-proof entrance would be more than welcome. I don't think I have the authority to do any updates or add any member-ballotage (is that English too, or just French and Dutch?) JB?
