I'm a big fan of Trevor Wilkinson and his Vintage brand guitars. (I have 3 of 'em!)
He also has a significant rep as a hardware designer. Besides Vintage, he has a few other enterprises on the go, including the Fret King line of guitars, wherein he tends to push the guitar design envelop some.

In that spirit I came across one of his "innovations" which looks suspiciously like the Gibson "Robot" technology. Have a look and see if this is just a gimmicky waste o' time or something useful:

Looks pretty cool, alright; "real" guitarists'll hate it!! :D My only comment would be perhaps that you often want a different guitar for the alt. tunings particularly slide, because the bridge and the nut are usually jacked up a bit higher, but otherwise, that looks quite funky!!

Hmm, says the bridge is "designed to retrofit unobtrusively in to a standard Strat® vibrato bridge rout".

I'm also a fan of Wilkinson (coincidently, NOT a fan of gibson).

I am with Corsair. There are more advantages to using a different guitar for different tunings or slide. The action for slide is obvious the less obvious is different strings. For slide flat wounds or half flats are best. For different tunings, different string guages help you retain tone and even feel. Other than that I too share your respect for him.

A final thought. Needing different guitars for different purposes helps to justify our GAS :D
