I'm sure I'm not the only one frustrated with the restrictions placed on the forum avatar size.

Since this is a guitar related site we naturally want to show off our babies from time to time in the avatar section. It makes a nice movable feast of eye candy as we rotate through our herds.

But the maximum of 90 x 90 pixels and 4 kb is simply too small. Otherwise nice photos have to be brutally butchered in order to try and satisfy these two conditions. Sometimes you can edit down to the 90x90 size but the colour has to be aggressively desaturated in order to satisfy the file size. What you are left with is either a painfully small image or one which has had the life bled out of it!

As many of you know, I am no stranger to web building and graphics, but I too am frustrated trying to hit this size, even with all the tools I use. One or both of these needs to be bumped up so that everyone can easily create a proper avatar that we can all see and enjoy.

For comparison, and to see what it could look like, have a peek at http:/forum.WestoneGuitars.net This uses a 150x200 64kb specification and the avatars are great!

Current size ok with me. You can always show off your 'babys' by posting large photo's in posts anyway.

No offense intended Barry but, what's the use of increased dimensions when you diminish photo's by adding a white vignette? One can argue it is a matter of taste but I sort of agree with Dom here, where's the logic behind it? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=plcp&hl=en&v=AXuaDAjT_WQ&gl=US

You're missing the point Jim. No one should have to brutally trim their pix to try and offer up a nice looking picture. Even without the "white vignette" the allotted size is too small, just look at the majority of the avatars in use here...they're pitiful. Your avatar happens to be square so it works. Most guitars that I've experienced are rectangular, and therein lies the problem.

"The logic behind it"? I use this effect here simply because it somewhat conveys a "vintage" feel which is what we're talking about here in these forums. I happen to like the effect and "Dom" the image Nazi can suck eggs. And by all means, avoid the WestoneGuitars.net site, it uses the white vignette as a design element for the reason mentioned above.

It always interests me as to the why behind different handles on different websites or forums. I am the Iceman on nearly every site or board I've joined with the exception of one or two I think which I haven't visited in a while to years.

Matsumoku forum was one of the first one I participated, and the first one in english...
It was a joke, I understand we can't change the name. The only way is to open a new account. :)

I know this thread has been dead for a while. Request taken and avatar size is now double what it used to me. 180x180.
