Hi all,
I've been lurking a bit, but decided it's time to take the plunge.
I'm Rob, but go by the handle 'skunqesh' (or Skunq, for brevity), and have frequented the Ib***z collectors site for a while.
(I know there are others here with similar or same interests). Also like to peruse the TDPRI pages, but that's a huge honkin forum, I find the congeniality of these sorts to be much more hospitable, that and think I could learn alot from all ya'll . 8-)

cheers!

Hey again.
eesh - It took me awhile to remember my password

I'm in the Bay Area (SF)

My favorite Mat' based guitar (and it may be my only one - I'm not positive of the origins of the others) is a Vantage Entertainer 565.
It's pretty beat - I don't know how many owners it's had, but it's clearly been around the block a few times.
I received it with Carvins, and the original MMK 61s were in the case, so tried those. The 61s were sweet and mellow, but had no 'spank' when using the coil split. I then tried a pair of EMG SEHG 'Select' pups, which were really quite good, I mean if they weren't butt ugly I'd have kept them. But..

I finally found a set of MMK 45s, zebras! Popped those in and, Voila!
They rip - and have a great single coil quack to them when split.

I've got a couple others whose origins I'm not certain of. I'm fairly convinced they are rebranded 'Cimar' guitars, and can't trace them to Fujigen, so I'm guessing they're Matsomoku. But that's why I love these forums, somebody out there will hopefully clue me in!

These are a couple of my all time favorite players - a Crestline ES and a Crestline LP style.
Both are set necks, the ES is 100% original (whoops - except for the Grover Imperials, but I ain't complainin'), the LP only had one original pup and three pots when I found her. (Both had 'Noble' brand pots, and pups that hint of Maxon). I'll have to dig for the pics of the pickup date stamps, but both are from the late 70s MIJ era, if I recall correctly.

Anyway - the LP I reworked into a crunch machine - jimmypage pushpull harness + some kind of Aria paf style pup in the neck, and a Red Rhodes velvet hammer in the bridge. I'm not fond of tootin' mah own horn, but.. this thing kiiiillz! (will eat a GibbyLP for lunch, breakfast, desert, and a midnite snack if need be) :D

I'll have to dig around or make some new pix, but I've also got a Cortez LP, deluxe style.
It's definitely one of the older ones, but I can't place a date on it - even the pots don't seem to have date codes.

It's a set neck, sandwich build, real heavy though, & I believe it's all mahogany.
it's really a nice player - good action, straight neck. Really a solid piece.
I went the extra effort to restock it with "Powersounds" pickups (Cort's answer to Dimzzy SuperD's) - i don't remember what was in it when i picked it up, just that they weren't cutting it. The powersounds are great for fast attack, high gain metal sounds, but sorta lack midrange or warmth for bluesier stuff. It's a work in progress..

I'll upload to this post when i find a good shot of it.
