Y'know, it's funny; I may not either before I finally dig up my bills of sale & paperwork! I still have a couple boxes to go thru, but so far, no joy. I know it's here somewhere so I'll keep looking. :loon:

I should point out a couple things I've changed (or knocked around over the years) on this axe:

After about 5 yrs of playing, I noticed the cord plug-in was needing CONSTANT retightening; I solved this by using a larger, & longer panhead-type screw to screw down the chrome plate & had no problems with it since. Regret throwing away the original screws...oh well.

Keen eyes have probably picked up on the pickup heights...I've moved them up & down frequently over the years depending on the gig or amp; this is the setting that was working for the last band I played with. (10 yrs ago...now I just annoy the neighbours!)

Many yrs ago, I had a tech suggest that the bridge be replaced (!) I LOVE playing this guitar, but was always wanting more sustain! Sure glad I never took his advice  He did a refinish on a brand new 1983 Gibson flying V (Korina...that should have been factory stamped "second") for me back then, & I thought many times of redoing this part of the guitar, but never did. Sure glad now...how have some other players out there dealt with (IMHO) lack of sustain, or is it even a problem?

I mentioned in my introductory post that every scar on this Aria had been well-earned, but I wish I'd looked after it a bit better at jam sessions. Most of them turned into alchohol-fueled binges that degenerated into bad hangovers & worse musical memories! I'd have a hard time remembering specifics, but the odd mic stand has taken its' toll...I did bend over once to reset an amp, & the bloody thing dropped just low enuff on the strap to clip a building block that was being used as an ashtray stand...cripes... :mad2:

The other thing that struck me about these pics was that I hang off a first position D & G maj WAY TOO MUCH! Can sure see the fretboard wear in these positions...

I've had a couple of close friends play this guitar over the years, (Gibson & Fender jockeys) & they have both raved about the neck...the only guitar I've owned that came close was a 62 Gibson SG reissue, but the radius was completely different. This one is much more comfy, & the guitar "feels" much more solid.

I'd be interested in hearing playing experiences from other Aria fans, as well as some comments on that case. It was sold with the guitar, & I've always assumed it was original to the axe. Maybe I should peel off those decals; sure are dated now.

And I did find a great pic of my ZZ Deluxe (blue with a lightning bolt) in it's case from the winter of 1984...I'll get this scanned in this week.

Hey! It's nice to see a fellow NHRA fan on here, some of my cases are ardorned the same way.

Regarding the lack of sustain you point to, this seems odd for a neck-through instrument. I don't have a clue. :dunno: No first hand knowledge of the RS series here. My 'Matts seem to span the sustian spectrum from "not very much" ( Skylark) to " go out for a sandwich" (Pe-60). I would expect yours to be closer to the latter.

Cheers,
G

IIRC, my RS600 sustains pretty well. Its always been a bit lower in output though.
Also, my 600 neck feels wide and round. Its a bit odd if I haven't played it in a while but it doesn't take long to warm up to it.
We grew up together.
It's an '80 model that I bought new in '81 with HSC for $438. Somewhere I believe I still have the receipt.
My other RS is part '86 The Cat and part '82 RS Special V.
Its a whole different beast. . .

On the sustain issue, are the two small allen screws tightened on the bridge piece?
