Hi all,

Just stumbled upon this site and am hoping I can get some help answering a basic question. I searched the site and have not seen any guidelines on what charateristics identify a guitar as originating from the Matsumoku factory. I own two MIJ guitars that I would like to know if they are Matsumoku. One is an Aria Flying V and the other is a Cortez SG-style 6/12 double neck. Both have the same cherry finish, the "Steel Adjustable Neck" plates, and have the same body and neck(s) construction. The bodies are three piece (two slabs with a thin ply between) and the necks are five piece (three thick pieces separated by thin plys). I have seen identical guitars but branded just the opposite (Cortez FV, Aria Doubleneck). If not Matsumoku, then who?

Thanks, Dave

Hi Swept57, and welcome here :)
given my Avatar, Aria isn't really my Area (no pun intended :D ), but your descriptions do ring some bells. If you could provide us with some pics (we love pics here), I'm sure some members will jump in with some basic answers
'Cortez' is usually associated with Cor-tek (Cort, South Korea), and I own this Cort-made Gumika, which is a 1:1 copy of the Matsumoku-made Vantage VA800 'Phantom' (except for the craftmanship and the hardware, they're of lesser quality). There definately is a connection there.
