Can someone recommend site THAT WORKS for resizing pics & scans so I can post them up on the board? I'm having a heck of a time trying to get some of these pictures "downsized" so I can post 'em up...they seem to get shrunk to a ridiculous size and/or have no clarity!

Thanx in advance; Dave

* A do it yourself method for windows no other prog. involved than windows paint no internet needed.

1. Put the picture up your screen and zoom to the desired size.
2. Press the printscreen button and open windows paint.
3. Paste the content of the clipboard in paint.
4. Crop to your pictures outline and save it as a .jpg
You are Done. Fast and simple.

* The on- line method by going to http://www.photosize.com/ or, with more advanced options at:
http://www.photosize.com/Advanced-Resizer.html where you can control the sharpness level better
Which is important when you compress text scans, it's a matter of trial and error but I suggest you start with about 10% compression and see what you get. Always save under a different name ( I usualy add numbers 1,2,3, etc.), to keep the original file undamaged. A file I downsized at 30% from 1024x768 pixels by filesize 759kb to 700x525 pixels became 30,4kb filesize to give an impression. Experiment. I'm sure there must be other on-line resizing services I just picked one maybe it's not the best.

For file conversions I often use a free online service http://www.zamzar.com/ )
Pretty straightforward and lots of formats. Comes in handy for instance if you put a scan in a word doc and want that doc to be converted to pdf. Smaller filesize!

* Or grab a free graphic program like Gimp and start learning.

Good luck!

Edited hours later to comment on the program options. I just gave it a try.

Easiest I've ever found is a Windows PowerToy called "resizer". Works for XP, not sure about other Windows OSs. The 'small' size works perfectly here.

I sometimes just prepare to send them by email, and set the attachment size to medium, and then save them to the desktop...

All good. There are any number of good software apps out there that can just resize photos/images for you. One of the easiest (and free) is FastStone Resizer:
http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm.
I've used their capture program for years. Good solid stuff.

Another more featured (free) graphics program that I'm lost without is IrfanView:
http://www.irfanview.ca/
This little program does just about everything including resizing, and very easily too.

Alternatively, the software running this board can be set to auto reduce the maximum set size while offering an option to enlarge to full size. I did this on the Westone Forum and it seems to be working quite well.

I don't really post photos on this board much, but I do compress photos. What I do - - and I think it is real easy - - Is open the photo with Microsoft Office Picture Manager - Select the Edit Pictures Tab - and then select Compress Pictures - and you are given a few options. It should work fine.

I use ACDSee which easily lets you right click the image file then click "resize" by percentage.
A 100k file is plenty enough instead of a 10Mb.

The above posts have some good suggestions too.
Some of them are freeware and others have a trial you can test out.

You probably already have a useable imaging program on your machine.
Just double click the file you want to edit and see what app comes up.
Most any image viewing program will have an option to edit/resize

Also you can change the settings on your camera to make smaller files to begin with.
Who needs 15MB image files of the dog?

I've been playing around with a few of these options over the last few weeks; if nothing else I'm discovering a few programs I didn't even know were on my system! Results so far haven't been optimal, however...I keep reminding myself of the proverbial eagle being driven to a microscope...some of these "free" sites are a bloody joke; we'd need magnifying glasses to see the pics.

I'll keep trying, or get the wife's daughter to help out...she's a whiz at this stuff.
