Hi All,
Currently going through the process of restoring some of my Mats while I have some time off over Chrissy.
I have 5or6 on the go at the moment.
This is my late 70's Vantage 650VS.
Bought her a while back it a bit of a sad state.
Non working, no control cavity or truss rod cover, half the wiring cut (hence why she was not working).
An old imperial pot installed as one of the volumes, with the knob jammed on to it.
No tuners,
Headstock full of holes from all different tuners.
Really really gungy fretboard.
Lot of chips, scratches & dings, but nothing too major.

Very proud of her now though as she has come up very nicely.
Have given her a full fret dress & polish & cleaned the fretboard,
Filled all of the dings & holes,
repaired the wiring,
rebuilt the bridge,
repaired the nut,
Fitted a set of nice old Grover USA Tuners,
Made new trussrod & control cavity covers,
The control cavity cover she is waring is from my VP710B, as the one I made fitted her better, her original one was a bit small & the VP710B's one fits her perfectly.
Just finished polishing her up & will throw on some strings this evening.
Enjoy.
Cheers.

Well...who's been a busy boy then!? :D
Terrific job there matey! I love it when they come back from the dead like that!
I like those cream coloured speed knobs too. Seems like you can get 'em in all sorts of colours these days.
BTW, are the pups original?

Yes pups are original Barry, they are the pre MMK pups with F/S on the bottom & a T on the top of one of the bobbins.
Knobs are also original
Same pups & knobs in the pic of my 600VS below
She is also nearing completion.
Cheers

They are a very nice guitar the VS600.
I am very fortunate to have both a VS600 & a 600VS.
They look the same at a glance but are infact quite different.
600VS being a late 70's model, which I assume was the forerunner to the VS600.

Image

Both bodies are cut from the same template as far as I can tell, but edge routing is different, being the 600VS has quite hard edges.

Image

Pickups are shared with the earlier 650VS above & are F'S's not MMK's,
Tuners are the early black bodied hex type,

Image

The fret board timber on these earlier vantages is also much darker, denser & finely grained almost like an ebony, but not quite.
Body is of completly different construction type, in regards to the centre laminated section.
600VS is a little heavier also.
Neck profiles are also completly different, 600VS is much chunkier.
So yes, even though they look so similiar they feel & sound completely different.
Cheers

Fortunate man indeed! I have seen the odd 600VS for sale and wondered how much of a difference there was.
Thanks for the description!
