I can't really elaborate. All I know is that the Chushin connection was mentioned by Peter Patrick of JAM Industries in a letter or email to Mozart, posted here:

Ahhh, yeah... I'd forgotten that but if the overflow production went to Chushin, would they not have made them to the Uncles recipe?

Re-reading that post, the man says he got his VA912 in 1978???

I got one or two mails more from Mr.Patrick. (No catalogs so far :( )
He doesn't really remember the Vantage timeline that exactly anymore.
Think he is mixing up the year when it all started (1978) with the year his VA912 is from (1980)!

As for the symbol on the 1985/86 pickups:
The greek Omega letter = the symbol for electric resistance. So it can be both: an Ohm-sign or just the greek letter....

Chushin:
Might be the reason for the different look of the late 84/85/86 Vantages (letter prefix ser, omega pups, graphlex necks...), but that's just a theory!
Sure MIJ, but I would NOT swear that these late Vantages are Matt made!!!

... Odd bridge; no spring tension on the saddles; only that lock bolt, and that sustain block has to be the wimpiest one I have ever seen!! Saddle height non adjustable and the heights are preset to the radius of the fretboard, like the Bendmaster Deluxe on some Westones.

Number:
I read: 59 -8

Neck:
From the ' 84 cat this new avenger was made with a graphlex (= graphite coloured) neck!
Do you "feel" any differences to the necks of older Vantage models?

Odd bridge:
In comparison to the 1980 - 1984 models, all the late Vantages are "cheapos"! They have been available for lower prices! Therefore lower production costs - and that means less features (and maybe a different production place?)
