The 790 arrived but sadly it needs a complete refretting from top to bottom.
I will try to get some pic's of it soon.

Ummm Jorg.... Im not joking about having to refret her. (VP790)
If you know anyone up here in the great white north I'm open to suggestion.

Barry: do you know a guy named Saunders...?
P Saunders from the Niagara region?

a colleague name dropped him to me..

The frets are a disaster. "vee" grooved (x) 6 across each fret practically all the way thru...
Fielding this need for I do not know where to go...still in the looking mode

You know, Graham... it's not hard to dress the frets; all you need is the right gear and a whole load of patience! The gear is relatively expensive - at least the good gear is, and I see no point in spending dosh on junk tools! - but it last for ages and ages, allowing you to do your own fret dressing/refrets with the consequent saving of mega bucks...

Mate, if I can do it; you most certainly can! In fact, I've even now re-fretted 2 guitars so the frets no longer hold any demons for me, eh!

Have a go, buddy; what's the worst that can happen?!

Sorry, no.
But as John says, dressing/leveling the frets isn't rocket science. You can pick up a kit for not much money, and it's re-useable.

I've managed to do spot work with a couple of files, grit paper, steel wool, and a fret rocker. Deep divots might necessitate replacement, but simple grooving can be removed or lessened considerably. It's mostly labour, which if you take it to a shop will make it expensive.

I second all that. Fret dressing and replacing - not really technically difficult. All you need is a bit of patience and the right tools. Most aren't expensive either (a few are, but not really exhorbitantly) but you need all of them! The only thing I would like, that is fairly pricey, is a fret press, but I have managed fine with a very small nylon faced hammer to gently tap the new frets in. (I have an idea for something to go on my Christmas list now...!)

Since getting struck with the dreaded GAS a few years ago, I've re-fretted quite a few guitars - and because it is really pretty easy, I've also levelled the frets on nearly all my guitars, and they all play much better for it.

Buy yourself a really cheap guitar and have a go!

:)

I use a caul in my drill press, got it from StewMac. I like it much better than a hammer but, a hammer will work.
It's a lot of fun and frets are cheap. . . :rockwoot:

There are plenty of videos online.
